Academic and Research Library Project Information

UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA - CHAPEL HILL HEALTH SCIENCES LIBRARY
Chapel Hill NC

The University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill recognized the need to renovate their heavily used Health Sciences Library and optimize the materials and study environments. A high reliance on information in electronic formats will allow the Library to devote more space for computer workstations and proactive staff interaction, and it will provide additional areas for teaching and learning. Michaels Associates led a programming charrette on campus with members of the advisory group and library staff and reviewed all appropriate background data regarding the college and the library: history, profile, mission, organization plan, projections for growth etc. We surveyed the existing facility to ascertain its deficiencies and reviewed the architect's strategies for renovation, including exterior access. Working with Cline-Davis Architects of Raleigh NC, Michaels Associates has continued to provide guidance and review of each stage of the process through completion, anticipated in 2002.
